•The wheelbase and the steering kinematics have been chosen so that on the one hand there is plenty of space for cargo, without sacrificing the typical BERNDS agility on the other.
•The robust construction in conjunction with 20" wheels permits a high payload of 260 kg.

The basic design for our folding tandem we have inherited from our folding bikes. We have mounted the robust, easy-running 20-inch wheels and the sprung, folding swingarm on a solid frame and adapted the whole geometry to the particular needs of tandem riding. For all those who do indeed like a compact and easy-to-ride bike but who do not place great importance on the... size when folded, we have built the Gretel.
The BERNDS-Gretel, too, possesses all the characteristics of the BERNDS family: the robust, easy-running 20" wheels, the sprung folding swingarm and the solid torsional stiffened, single-tube frame.
In favour of the extra-deep step-through we have forgone the design of a pure folding bike. All the same, the BERNDS-Gretel can still be carried in the car without the need for a bike rack.
